"Ulysses M2S is a special horse with a lot of potential. A stallion with a lot of scope and elasticity in his body. He jumped fantastically."
Janny Morsink, 2005 Dutch Champion Hunter Rider
and
Ulrich Kirchhoff, 1996 Individual & Team Olympic Gold Medalist
in their statement to the press following Ulysses M2S' victory in the 2005 Euregio Indoor Denekamp Stallion Competition in the Netherlands.
Ulysses M2S is the 2006 5-Year-Old Indoor Showjumping Champion of Ireland.
Ulysses M2S is a super example of a modern KWPN sporthorse: beautifully engineered, highly athletic, and possessing world-class performance genes. He is very high quality and his temperament is outstanding. He has three excellent gaits and his conformation is exceptional. As a showjumper Ulysses has very good technique both in front and behind and he uses his back very well.
Ulysses M2S was Licensed by the Anglo European Studbook in March 2005 after competing against thirty-five of Europe's best 4- and 5-year-olds at the Zwolle International Stallion show; in November 2005 he was Approved by the Anglo European Studbook after qualifying for the Dutch Championship for Four-Year-Olds, jumping many double-clear rounds at 1.10 metre, and winning the 1.10 metre Stallion Competition at the Euregio Indoor Denekamp Show in the Netherlands on 25 October 2005.
Ulysses M2S was initially trained and competed by Dutch Olympic rider, National Champion, and European Young Rider Champion Gert-Jan Bruggink. But because of Gert-Jan's extensive travel schedule this young stallion was next produced by Eddie Brinkman. Eddie is well-known for his great success in producing many of Holland's top showjumping stallions early in their careers. In the summer of 2006 Ulysses M2S returned to Ireland and was campaigned by National Champion Rider Clement McMahon. Among their many successes was winning the 5-Year-Old Indoor Showjumping Championship. Beginning in January 2007 Ulysses M2S will be ridden by his new co-owner, Belgian junior rider Rossella de Simone, and the stallion will be based in Belgium at the yard of Rossella's trainer, the World Champion Jos Lansink.
Morningside Stud inseminated a wide variety of Irish, Dutch, and Holsteiner mares with semen from Ulysses M2S in 2004, 2005 and 2006. His fertility is over 95% and his two crops have been outstanding. From the first crop Morningside Stud sold one colt foal to a Northern Ireland showjumper and one filly foal was sold to the USA. From his second crop a filly foal was sold to the Irish international dressage rider Judy Reynolds, who represented Ireland at the World Equestrian Games in 2006. The remaining foals have been retained by Morningside Stud.
Sire: Ekstein was ranked 38th in the word as a sire of international showjumpers. His most famous progeny is Joel (ridden by Gert-Jan Gruggink). Ekstein is dam-sire of the outstanding horse Hickstead (ridden by Eric Lamaze).
Dam: Gudrun is a Keur Prestatie mare with a breeding index of 142. She produced many outstanding offspring including two KWPN Ster mares (approved broodmares) and four competing in sport (two in dressage and two in showjumping). Her son President won the 2001 Italy Stallion Performance Test and was approved by UNIRE; he then became 4-Year-Old Belgium Champion, was declared "Elite", and was approved by the Belgian Sporthorse Studbook. In 2003 Princess Haya purchased President. Gudrun's Keur daughter Kretienne was KWPN Champion Mare and was ranked as the 19th best mare. Gudrun's daughter Cruisly (registered name Orashi) jumps internationally and earned the Sport-Showjumping predicate.
Gudrun's sire Voltaire was one of history's greatest sires of showjumpers. He won the Nations Cup of Calgary, Stockholm, s'Hertogenbosch, Lanaken, Helsinki, Wiesbaden and Wembley and the Berlin Grand Prix. In 1999 the WBFSH ranked him as the world's 2nd best sire.
Gudrun's dam Adriana is a KWPN Preferent mare. She produced the Ster mare Deborah, who competed in both dressage and showjumping and is the third dam of the Vice-Champion of the 2004 Sella Italiano Stallion Performance Test, Temptation van Herikhave, and 2nd dam of a 2004 Belgian Showjumping Champion, Ringo (also approved as a stallion by the Anglo European Studbook). Adriana also produced the Keur Preferent Prestatie mare Evident, who competed in dressage and is the dam of the stallion Mercurius, approved by the Danish Warmblood Society. Adriana is also dam of the stallion Fontaine 861, who was approved by the Swedish Warmblood Studbook and exported to the USA, and the gelding Justice, who competed in both dressage and showjumping.
